With the hot summer months upon us, it's so important that we protect and hydrate ourselves from head to toe. We nurture our skin with sunscreens and moisturizers, our hair with leave-in conditioners and tonics and our feet with rich salves and creams.....but what about our lips? Yes, sadly our lips are often neglected and can easily become dry or chapped. Our lips are one of the only surfaces of our body that does not self moisturize. Not only that, our lips do not contain the protective pigment melanin; all the more reason to go out of our way to protect them, right? Let us help you! Here are a few fabulous products along with a couple tips to will help you maintain soft healthy lips this summer.
People seriously go crazy for our lip balms! We make sure to include beneficial ingredients such as sweet almond oil, known to revitalize, nourish and moisturize. Sweet almond oil is also high in vitamin B2 which helps soothe and prevent chapping and cracking as well as vitamin E, known to protect and repair from sun damage. Another key component that makes our lip balms so wonderful is castor oil, a fabulous moisturizer that provides a protective barrier, softens dry, rough skin and adds a hint of natural shine. Our lip balm just wouldn't be complete without cocoa butter: we love how gentle cocoa butter is as well as its ability to lock in moisture.
Which lip balm is right for you? Well, we've got three delightful balms to choose from: our Original Lip Balm is a fan favourite and has a scent similar to candy and mint (umm...who doesn't love candy and mint?!). Our Horse Lips lip balm is beautifully fragranced with minty coconut and lastly, our Sea Buckthorn lip balm has a very subtle buttery scent and is packed with sea buckthorn oil, an ingredient we love to include in our anti-aging skin care products due to its high essential fatty acid content and its skin-repairing and cell-regenerative abilities. Please note that our lip balms do not contain pigment or colour; they're great for men, women and kids!
But that's not all! We've also formulated an exfoliant to slough off dead skin cells and leave your lips feeling supple, healthy and soft. Pucker Up Lip Buffer is a sugar based exfoliant. Sugar is a natural humectant and a natural source of glycolic acid which penetrates deeply and encourages cell reproduction resulting in fresher, younger looking skin. We've also added cranberry seeds to the recipe due to its high omega fatty acid content and its ability to increase the elasticity of skin. (Plus cranberry seeds add just a hint of colour.) Macadamia nut and Jojoba are super nourishing oils that absorb nicely into the skin and make this exfoliant easy to wipe/rinse off and extremely hydrating.
Other ways to keep your pucker looking pretty? Water! Drink lots of it this summer. And try to refrain from licking your lips; saliva contains digestive enzymes that dehydrate the delicate skin and protective barrier. If you notice your skin and lips are constantly dry, perhaps a humidifier is just what you need.
Stay hydrated and protected this summer!
