Hyaluronic acid - Fountain of Youth?

March 01, 2017

Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant (aka moisture-binding ingredient) that helps keep skin plump and hydrated If there is a "fountain of youth" this might well be it! Hyaluronic acid is not acidic or harsh as the name might imply - in fact, quite the opposite!

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring carbohydrate (polysaccharide) in the human body. It’s present in large amounts in the spaces between skin cells, providing moisture, plumpness, firmness and suppleness to the skin.   A polysaccharide is a long-chain carbohydrate made up of smaller carbohydrates called monosaccharides that's typically used by our bodies for energy or to help with cellular structure.

Children's skin is high in Hyaluronic acid - thus the "dewy look" of young skin . Over time the Hyaluronic acid in skin diminishes.  Using Hyaluronic acid in a topical form can help re-hydrate and restore some of that youthful glow - in either a serum or moisturizer - you will see the results in smoother skin . It is also helpful in protecting your skin from UV damage and aids in the healing process if skin is damaged. Great for all skin types - this ingredient is certainly a winner in our books!
